2019 Center of Excellence

The CURRC brought together biomedical faculties across different specialties including basic immunology, orthopedics, rheumatology, cardiology and imaging. This center has made significant contributions to both scientific research and clinical service for rheumatic patients. CURRC has organised its research into 4 streams of key areas of research interest, in which there is high degree of integration and collaboration of basic and translational scientists and clinicians. This center has all the requisite molecular, cellular and translational and imaging facilities to deliver modern translational medicine. The CURRC also actively engages in teaching, learning, and mentorship of the next generation of scientists and clinicians.

Our Hospital has contributed to medical innovations supported by basic science/clinical evidence. The visions of our department is striving to be the world’s leading institute with clinical outcomes, “discoveries for sympathetic care” is our motto. The purpose/aim is to provide excellent clinical care while investigating the causes and best treatments for rheumatic diseases. We provide treatment options to medical and social situations, with highest priority on improving functional status. Our department provides options to the distinct needs of the employees allowing flexible working styles. Exchange-programs of researchers between overseas/domestic institutions enabled us to arrange qualitative researches.

Our center is well equipped physically and logistically to provide patients with one of the best clinical services around the southeast Asia region. The Department of Rheumatology of Peking Union Medical College Hospital has been the leading clinical and academic center for rheumatology in China since it was established in 1983. It focuses on providing the best clinical care to patients with common and rare rheumatic disorders, and providing standardized education for rheumatologists around the whole country. 72 rheumatologists, nurses and laboratory technicians work in the department. It is very recently named the “National Clinical Research Center for Autoimmune Diseases” jointly by National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China and Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China.

Our department are doing our best to provide the best clinical service and satisfy the scientific unmet needs. The aim of our department is the harmony in clinical and scientific activities as well as trainee education based on team-based learning. Particularly, we are trying to achieve the level of cutting edge in both clinic and basic researches. We provide up-to-date and evidence-based information on the treatment of rheumatic diseases. We promote both basic and clinical researches, especially for systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, adult-onset Still’s disease, and osteoporosis
